School Closure 13th November

Dear Ngunguru School community.

Re: School closure  Tuesday 13th of November for stop work action.

Following strike action in August, and extensive negotiations since, there has been no satisfactory progress with the Ministry and primary teachers and principals. While the Ministry did come back with an offer it did little to address the industries concerns and members resoundingly voted to reject these offers.

Next Tuesday 13th of Novemberthe teachers from this school will stop work in support of the Kua Tae Te Wā - It’s Time campaign. The campaign aims to free teachers to teach and principals to lead, by getting the additional support, resourcing and staff that schools need and by attracting and retaining staff in the teaching profession.  This stop work action is not taken lightly.

Our Ngunguru teaching staff are predominantly members of NZEI and will be on strike. Therefore  due to the reduced adult to child ratios and inherent safety concerns, the Board of Trustees has made the decision to close our school on this day.

The Board appreciate that this creates inconvenience for families. However, we encourage you to support not only our teachers but teachers across the country as they strive to achieve the changes which will safeguard quality education for all children and ensure we make teaching an attractive profession for graduates.
